Do we need planning permission for our garden room?
Planning permission is not normally required; our buildings fall under permitted development (built under 2.5m high externally). Our garden buildings do not require building regulations approval either.
The opportunity to extend your home without planning permission or building regulations approval, enables us to install your garden quickly and cost-effectively…..saving money, time and stress!
However, should planning be required, we will be more than happy to help with the process. Don’t let the need for planning put you off as planning as 95% of applications are approved.
When might I need planning permission?
The need for planning permission is generally dependent on where you live and not related to the garden room building itself.
Most areas in the UK do not require planning permission for a garden room. If you live in a listed building, flat, maisonettes or SSSI (site of special scientific interest) then you will require planning permission for your building – otherwise you shouldn’t need it.
There are also considerations for those who live in AONBs and Conservation areas that affect where your green room can be built in your garden – but it does not affect your rights to have a garden room.
Can The Green Room Company do everything?
At the Green Room Co. we offer a complete service, from initial design to your completed building; all aspects are handled by and dealt solely by ourselves, you will have one point of contact who controls the whole project.
Could you make it fit my plot?
We offer a completely bespoke service, our rooms can be tailored to fit any plot size and shape. We build only to order, allowing us to tailor your room to your exact requirements.
My house is listed, can I still have a garden room?
Yes you can but it will require planning permission. We are more than happy to help you with the process; in 95% of cases planning permission is granted.
Do we need to prepare a foundation for the garden room?
No, you won’t need to prepare a foundation. All works for your garden room form part of the package. In most cases, we will install a ground screw foundation to support the building. This means there is no concrete pour, as well as low environmental impact.
Do you install the electrics?
Yes, the electrics form part of the package. We partner with an electrical contractor who ensures all installations are carried out to the current regulations and provides a NICEIC electrical certificate upon completion.
Are garden rooms warm enough to use in winter?
Our garden rooms are designed to be used 365 days of the year. The floors, walls and ceiling are thoroughly insulated and we provide, as standard, a 7-day timer electrical heater, This ensures a comfortable temperature whatever the weather. We also offer log burners and air conditioning, depending on your requirement.
What options are there?
Options are limitless, and we pride ourselves on being able to offer as many variations as possible to each element of the build. This also helps to achieve the building that you desire within your budget.
Can you do preparation works?
We offer site preparation works, including garden clearance, etc. This can all be discussed at our preliminary consultation.
Can you do landscaping works?
Yes, we are able to offer a range of landscaping around your garden room including decking, patios, steps, etc.
